Day 1 | Story Behind the Brand

Ozark Impressions sparked from my love for all the intricate details found in the hills and hollers of these Ozark Mountains.

Since childhood I’ve been filling my pockets with rocks, bringing home bouquets of chicory and phlox, and making collections of dead things. I know that sounds weird, but I still have a few sets of cow teeth that I found as a child while walking the dairy cows up to be milked with my dad.

My windowsills are lined with fossils, carcasses of wasp, moth, Hercules beetle, and sun bleached turtle shell. a deer antler and snake skin hang on my studio wall, and a staff of a beaver chewed limb is displayed proudly above my window. I love what living things leave behind, which carries over to my love for fossils as well.

My logo is my own art, digitized by a dear friend. Lavender from my momma’s garden, goldenrod that lined the cow pasture, and an elusive ammonite…because although I’ve yet to find one in the Ozark Region, I’m obsessed with their nautilus spiral and how nature is filled with the most logical and magical consistencies.

With my art, you’ll find an appreciation for the intricate details of nature. If you get a chance to come visit me at a show in person, you’ll find the theme running deep even in my displays. I want the wearer to feel a bit of the magic of these hills. To get a sense of the larger story behind the pieces. And especially, to find their connection to the longer story found in geological time as it intertwines with the seasonal growth of botanicals. It’s all connected, and I love that most of all 🐚🌀🌾

Each day of March I’ll be tagging an artist I know/love/follow so you can show them some love as well! Check out @butterscotch_collective and see all the glorious glass creations she kiln fires herself in Siloam!

Follow myself and other makers through the month of March as we share the stories behind our art with #marchmeetthemaker
